Medicines Optimisation

The NHS Cannock Chase CCG medicines optimisation teams work closely with GP practices and the CCG to ensure that medicines are prescribed in a safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective way.

Our aim is to work together with prescribers in primary care and local acute care providers to deliver medicines optimisation to the local population.

We work as part of a wider medicines optimisation group across South Staffordshire with a joint formulary and Area Prescribing Group to:

  • Provide up-to-date, unbiased information on medicines, treatment and care pathways
  • Develop and maintain local treatment pathways and guidelines to optimise medicine use
  • Support prescribers and patients to make best use of medicines
  • Minimise the harm caused by medicines

Rebate Schemes

Cannock Chase Clinical Commissioning Group follows the policy from the South Staffordshire Area Prescribing Group on prescribing rebates with pharmaceutical companies. Medicines included in the prescribing rebates are formulary choices within South Staffordshire Joint Formulary.
